Averaging Demonstration

Use the applet below to blend a number of face images together. Select the images to blend by clicking on them, then select the "Make Average" tab to calculate the average. You can then save the average to the browser, using the button provided. It will appear in a new browser window and can be saved to your computer from there.

How it works

Each image has been delineated with a set of points and lines. The average set of points is found, then all the images are warped into the average shape. Finally the average pixel colour is found by averaging the red, green and blue components of the colour at each pixel across the set.
